Prayers & Squares

prayers sqThe Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry provides hand-made quilts to people going through a difficult time in their lives.  Each quilt is lovingly made and then shared in worship and prayed over by the congregation.

Strings are attached to each square of the quilt and are tied together as a tangible symbol of prayer by each person who prays.  The quilts are made for members and friends of the church family.  Work days are held at the church to cut out material and to prepare the quilts.

To request a quilt, to find out the next workday, or for more information please contact Sandra Boedeker in the church office.

Grief Ministry

Walking With Hope

A Grief Ministry

7da0541d03a61da524c4161ee2961046 1How do you understand grief when your heart is broken by the death of a loved one?  How do you cope with a holiday season or family gathering that will never be the same?  How do you manage feelings of isolation and loneliness?

Although we are each unique in our loss, we share a common experience.  Grief will affect each of us during our lifetime, but we do not have to experience this time alone.  If you are grieving the death of a loved one, we invite you to join with others in finding support and a way forward.

Grief Support Groups

A grief support group offers specific coping strategies to guide you way forward.  Scripture wisdom is used to explore the issues of grief and offer encouragement for a life of renewed hope and joy.  Contact the church office for the schedule.

A Service of Remembrance

A special time of remembering loved ones is held periodically through the year.  This time of worship is focused on remembrance and encouragement.  Please contact the church office for a schedule of services.

More Information

If you would like more information about our Grief Ministry please visit with Sandra Boedeker or Sharon Paris.

There are many ministries and studies for women.  There are short-term studies, retreats, and trips scheduled during the year.  The largest number ministries for women comes from our United Methodist Women organization.

UMWlogoUnited Methodist Women offers study, mission, and fellowship opportunities for women.  First United Methodist Church has a general meeting and three circles that offer even more fellowship, mission and study.

To learn about United Methodist Women or any of the other ministries for women, please contact the church office.

Men in the church family are busy in many capacities.

One special opportunity for all men includes Powerbreak.  Powerbreak is a learning, prayer, and fellowship breakfast that takes place on the Second Tuesday of each month (September-May).  Men gather at 7:00 a.m. and we conclude by 7:45 a.m. so you can be about your day.  No reservations are required and all men are invited.

This is one of our specialized small group for men.  This group meets for prayer and study.

This small group meets early in the morning once a week for an in-depth study.

The men at FUMC provide a variety of ministries and needs from constructing wheel chair ramps, participation in Habitat for Humanity, offering small home repairs as needed, and other local mission opportunities.

Please call the church office for more information about our Men's Ministries.

Stephen Ministries

Stephen Ministers Are Ready to Care!

Stephen Ministries is grounded in Jesus' command to love one another.  God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing through one-to-one Christian caring relationships that provide those who are hurting with the love and care they need to support them.  Stephen Ministers are members of the congregation who have received training in providing spiritual and emotional care.

Stephen ministers attend to the care-giving process and leave the results to God.  A Stephen Minister will:

  • Listen
  • Care
  • Pray
  • Support
  • Encourage
  • Explore Feelings

Strict confidentiality is maintained, including the identities of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship.  To request a Stephen Minister or for additional information, contact Sandra Boedeker in the church office.

Hospital Visitation Team

The Hospital Visitation Team is a small group of persons, who have Stephen Minister training and have been in a Stephen Minister relationship, that assist the pastors with hospital visitation.  Each person on the HVT team had additional training and are called upon through the church office.  You will recognize a HVT member by the name tag they wear when making visits.

"Therefore encourage one another build up each other."
