Friendship Meal

Friendship Meal

This free, hot meal is served family-style for our community friends.  It is held on the fourthTuesday of each month in McCree Hall.  If you would like to roll up your sleeves and get involved we have a place for you. In addition to the meal, the evening includes groups singing, and a short devotion.  Different groups in the church prepare the food each month.

Our church family started this ministry in 1999 with the hope that a different church in town would each take a Tuesday in the month so that every Tuesday evening would be covered.  This dream is now completed as every Tuesday of the month, a different church in Graham hosts this community program.

Glass Slipper Project

This ministry answers an important need in the community by providing youth formal wear for events such as prom or when other formal wear is required.  The Glass Slipper provides the main garments as well as the accessories.  It is supported by the church family and community.  Contact Angie Graham or the church office for more information.

Community Garden

Our First United Methodist Church Community Garden supplies fresh seasonal vegetables for the local Food Bank, Friendship Meal, and Our Daily Bread.  The garden is cared for by members of the congregation who meet every week to plant, hoe, tend, care, and harvest their bounty.  You do not need to have a green thumb, just a willingness to serve others by providing fresh vegetables.

The community garden produced many hundreds of pounds of food last year and the produce is often the first fresh, home-grown vegetables, that people have ever eaten.  One of the children from Our Daily Bread said it best, "I never knew vegetables could taste so good!"

Work in the garden is generally done as a group on Tuesday of each week.  Check with the church office or Nann Hale for more information.

Garments Of Grace

This tremendous ministry grew out of a desire to provide a way for children and youth to have brand-new clothing to start the school year.  The ministry has grown and now provides a wide selection of clothing and accessories for children and youth who have been referred by teachers and community agencies.  Clothing and accessories are arranged in a store format, everything is brand new with the tags still attached, and children and youth shop for their selections.

Church members and friends provide donations of clothing and the money to purchase clothing as the seasons change.  Clothing can be brought to the atrium on Sunday morning and placed on the clothes rack or brought by the church office during the week.  Contact Joni Street or the church office for more information.

Global Missions

First UMC in Graham has been involved in numerous global ministries and mission efforts.  We were one of the first churches allowed into Haiti after the hurricane devastated the nation in 2010.  Our work was inland and provided medical and rebuilding assistance with the people of Haiti.

Our church family has also been involved with a United Methodist missionary, Willie Bergman, in Mexico for some years.  We have sponsored multiple trips to Mexico and continue to support his ministry financially.  Willie serves as the Director of Manos Juntas and is paid as a missionary by the General Board of Global Ministries.

Manos Juntas, or Hands Together, partners with United Methodist churches in the United States and with groups along the border in Mexico.  Started as a stimple ministry to build concrete block houses, to operate medical clinis, and to teach children about the bible, the ministry has grown to include a number of needs.  The Manos Juntas Clinic meets medical, dental, psychological, and opthalmology needs.  The Food Program consists of lunch and breakfast feeding programs.

A new program, Manitas Juntas, or Little Hands Together, is designed to teach the children to be in mission.  Teams of children have been able to bring sandwiches to homeless people,a ssist the elderly, clean parks, paint public schools, and organize friendship parties at orphanages.
